Truman Lake is the reason a lot of people find us. Fifty-five thousand acres of standing timber, three major river arms, and one of the top crappie fisheries in the Midwest — anglers come from Kansas City, St. Louis and points further to fish it, and they need a good bed at the end of the day.
Here's the layout: the dam and the Corps of Engineers visitor center are in Warsaw, about 38 minutes south of our front desk. But the Grand River arm — the piece of the lake most Clinton anglers actually fish — runs right up toward us. Sparrowfoot is a four-lane concrete ramp about 15 minutes south of the hotel. Bucksaw, a full-service marina with a three-lane ramp on the Grand River arm, is about 25 minutes southeast. Long Shoal Marina, 8 miles west of Warsaw with boat and jet-ski rentals, is about 40 minutes for us.
Why guests stay in Clinton instead of the lake resorts
- Boat and trailer parking. We have a purpose-built area for rigs. No jockeying with hotel cars.
- Boat charging access. If you're running an electric trolling motor and a lithium bank, ask the desk on arrival. This is the differentiator we hear about most from tournament crews.
- Hot breakfast starts before the fish do. Early breakfast means you're on the water at first light instead of hunting for coffee.
- The town has restaurants. Clinton's historic square is a five-minute drive and has real dinner options — Square 109, 303 Jefferson, and The Branding Iron all live around the courthouse. Trying to find dinner at 9 PM on the lake itself is not always a great time.
- Highway access. MO-7 / MO-13 / MO-18 all converge here, which matters if you're pulling a boat back to KC on a Sunday night.
What to book
Tournament crews usually take the Queen Double (two double beds) or the Three-Bedroom Family Suite (three full-size beds, sleeps six). Couples fishing a weekend often grab the Jacuzzi Suite — one big bed, one big tub, and it makes the drive home the next day a lot less painful.
What we're not going to pretend
We're a hotel, not a marina. We don't have fish cleaning stations on-site — please clean fish at Sparrowfoot, Long Shoal or Bucksaw where the water is set up for it. We're happy to help with cooler ice and next-morning coffee, but the fish stays out of the room.
Book direct for the best rate, or call the front desk at (660) 885-2206 and mention it's a fishing trip. We'll confirm boat parking and boat charging in the same call.
