A pet-friendly road trip in west-central Missouri does not have to be an exercise in creative loopholes. Here's a three-day itinerary built around Clinton — using Westbridge Inn & Suites as your base, where up to 2 pets per room are welcome.
Day 1 — Arrive Clinton, walk Artesian Park
Drive in mid-afternoon. Check in at Westbridge. Walk your dog at Artesian Park at 811 Marigold — the park has playgrounds, disc golf, an amphitheater and plenty of green. Dinner on the historic square (patio dining varies by season and establishment — call ahead if you want to keep the dog with you).
Overnight: Westbridge Inn & Suites, Standard Queen or King Suite. Bring your dog's own bed if you can.
Day 2 — Truman Lake with the dog
Drive south to Sparrowfoot — 15 minutes. It's the closest Truman Lake access point to Clinton, with a four-lane concrete ramp and paved parking. Walking areas are plentiful; keep the leash on.
Optional add-on: continue to Warsaw (38 minutes from Clinton) to see Truman Dam. Downtown Warsaw has walkable streets for a mid-afternoon leash-legs.
Come back to Clinton. Second night at Westbridge.
Day 3 — Katy Trail slow ride
The Katy Trail western terminus is 2 miles from our front desk on N Price Lane, off Highway 52 just west of the 7/13 intersection. Even if you're not cycling, the trailhead has a good stretch of trail for a morning walk with the dog. Well-behaved leashed dogs are common on the trail.
Breakfast at Westbridge before you go. Check out at 11 AM.
The rules for pets at Westbridge
- Up to 2 pets per room.
- Small pet fee — call (660) 885-2206 for the current amount so it's not a surprise at check-in.
- Pets on leash on the property, no pets unattended in rooms.
- Bring their bed if you can. Everyone sleeps better.
Real talk on pet-friendly restaurants
Patio dining rules change by season and by establishment. If keeping the dog with you at dinner matters, call the restaurant before you go — most in Clinton are accommodating with patio setups but nothing is guaranteed. When in doubt, we're happy to point you at a walk-and-eat that's dog-friendly for takeout.
